My 3 Favorite Cruise Ports, and Why...

While I’ve never had a cruise port that I didn’t like, there are definitely some ports that stand out from the rest. Some places leave you wanting to come back before you’ve even left, and these three destinations especially do that for me.

First, let’s talk about Grand Turk. This place is absolutely unreal. The island itself is not very large; in fact, we explored almost the entire island by golf cart when I was there, making our way all the way to the Grand Turk Lighthouse and back. Along the way, we met donkeys, saw the beautiful waters of the Town Pond and North Creek, and experienced the unique charm of the island.

While we almost got lost, our paper map guided us back through Cockburn Town, and we eventually made our way to Governor’s Beach, where this photo was taken. It is easily one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen in person. The crystal-clear water, soft sand, and peaceful atmosphere made this a place I would return to in a heartbeat.

Next up is San Juan, Puerto Rico. This destination was the perfect mix of everything. It gave me a sense of home, even though it was completely different from anything I had experienced before. There were shops, restaurants, and local spots right near the cruise port, making it easy to explore.

But the true highlight of San Juan was the historic fort, Castillo San Felipe del Morro. This incredible structure felt like stepping back in time. Walking through the old walls, looking out over the ocean, and seeing the history built into every corner was an unforgettable experience. The water here was a shade of blue I can’t even describe — it was absolutely unreal. Once again, I can’t wait to go back and explore even more of what San Juan has to offer.

Finally, Amber Cove, Dominican Republic is one of those destinations where the views alone make an impression the moment you arrive. Because of the island’s mountainous landscape, the scenery is incredible and truly gives off a “Jurassic Park” feeling — which makes sense, because parts of the original Jurassic Park were filmed in the Dominican Republic.

The port area itself has plenty of shops, restaurants, and a complimentary pool area if you decide to stay close to the ship. However, you would be missing out because there are so many amazing excursions available here.

One of my favorite experiences was taking a bus to Ocean World Adventure Park and spending the day exploring everything it had to offer. From dolphin shows, shark encounters, and parrot shows to snorkeling with tropical fish, there was something exciting around every corner. The day pass included so many activities, and there was even time to relax by the water or enjoy the floating water attractions.

The entire day was an unforgettable experience, and even though I’ve already been, Amber Cove is another destination I would happily return to 100%.

These three ports are just a few examples of why cruising is so special. Every destination offers something different, and there are always new memories waiting to be made.
